More on Blair-Witching Britney

My trail balloon on hitting the RIAA headon has generated a lot of feedback. Roji has an informed description of two big roadblocks waiting for that plan - the near monopoly control over large venues of Ticketmaster and ClearChannel. The latter, of course, has no desire to see the value of its radio franchises eroded by a bypass abundancy strategy.

Chuq von Rospach expands on his earlier e-mails with similar observations, but with an additional interesting angle: the res. Just go read it, and then (if you're a Californian) ponder the political influence already developed by tribal casinos in just a few years. Hmmmm....

Cowardice in Sacramento

No, it's not Gray Davis. This time, it's the Sacramento Bee, rolling over to a special interest - the Latino caucus, and muzzling house blogger Daniel Weintraub. What caused the flap? Apparently these passages created too much heat for the Bee's publisher and/or editor:

"[Cruz Bustamante] certainly owed his elevation to the job of Assembly speaker to his ethnic background and to the support he received from fellow Latinos. If his name had been Charles Bustmont rather than Cruz Bustamante, he would have finished his legislative career as an anonymous back-bencher.... it's indisputably true that the Legislature's Latino Caucus advocates policies that are destructive to their own people and to greater California, in the name of ethnic unity."
Opinionated to be sure, but then, Weintraub's paid as an opinion columnist. His blog is the first time that I've paid any attention to the Bee, and now they've proved to be the lapdog of special interests, it's likely the last.
