Are other media displacing music sales?

Interesting data and analysis over at BusinessPundit. Bottom line: it sure looks suspicious. Likely culprits? Home video, game machines, online time.

More DARPA dopiness

In the wake of the TIA and terrorism futures market flaps, the Congress seems inclined to cut DARPA's budget by hundreds of millions of dollars. Some of the programs targeted, such as sleep research and neural control of mechanical devices, are not only fundamentally useful science, but directly relevant to keeping our military edge and reducing casualties among the troops. Another example of the political and intellectual cowardice of the Federal government: anything politically incorrect must be nuked, regardless of its actual scientific merits or long term potential. DARPA is a long term asset to the DOD, the R&D community, and the nation. It's disgusting to see the politicos work it over with no thought for tomorrow. This damage is being done in the Senate; a good time for an e-mail to the appropriate targets.

Ahoy, mateys!

Today be Talk Like a Pirate Day, and we be salty venture capitalists sea dogs. Arrrr! Lay aloft ye bilge rats, and spy me a deal rich prize. Avast, and shiver me timbers! Thar be an undercapitalized software company a wallowing merchantman to leeward, low down with IP gold! Load the broadside with liquidation preferences round shot and run 'em out smartly, me hearties. Put a term sheet shot acrosst her bow, and if she don't strike, run 'em alongside. Arrr!!

Didn't you always suspect it?
