SARS Screw-your-customer-itis hits Microsoft

You thought I was picking on the Redmond crew below? You'll really love this screed by Aaron Goldberg over at eWeek, in which he drags in history back to SNA and MBASIC to suggest that Microsoft is on the same downhill path as the former IBM - unavoidable secular decline. A glorious Old Fart rant; I can only gaze in admiration.

It's rather early to write off MSFT, as it was IBM. But some of its recent moves, particularly with respect to Linux and open source in general smack of ill-conceived FUD, a hasty defense by a company that has been caught off its strategic guard. Where's the customer value delivered here? If there isn't any, then Goldberg is onto something.
