Cisco buys Linksys
This will be an interesting integration exercise. Linksys is a low-rent 'edge device' provider, most notorious currently for rock-bottom 802.11 access points, while Cisco has tried hard to maintain a high-feature, high-price position in the same market. Integrating sales channels between the two companies will be nearly impossible. OTOH, Cisco could easily use Linksys as a stalking horse to push its proprietary ideas on both WiFi and IP out to the network edge. |
